Making RS gold in RuneScape can be a complicated process since there are simply so many options to choose from. Many options are just plain bad and inefficient, whilst others can perfectly capitalize on the current ever-changing market landscape of RuneScape. Therefore, the general idea is that you should evaluate the best money-making methods available to you with two factors to keep in mind: how fun they are to do and how efficient they are.

This guide will cover one general approach of money making methods, skilling.

Skilling

Skilling can be surprisingly profitable and is very often underestimated, despite the fact that some skilling activities have an item output that generates a larger profit than some bosses.

The main consideration with skilling is that there are various methods, and they come down to a core tradeoff. Either you take the route that’s most optimized for profit (making gold through selling items at the Grand Exchange) or optimized for the experience. The latter route, optimizing for experience may require that you gain a lot more experience per hour in that skill but have to invest more and typically will operate at a loss, which isn’t really sustainable unless you have a money making method to supplement it.

The great news is that often there’s a middle ground: there are skilling methods that both provide a lot of profit whilst also providing a lot of experience. In some cases, the method providing the most experience per hour can also be the best OSRS money making method for that skill based on your current level.

You also shouldn’t focus on generating a profit with every single skill you’re training. There’s no point trying to generate money by selling the trout fish that you can catch at level 15 Fishing. You’ll want to progress the skill a bit and then focus on generating profits with a few skills that actually provide a good amount of gold per hour. And of course, some skills like Prayer will never have a way for you to generate profit, so those are out of the equation entirely.
