Our AuthorsRunescape's Mod Osborne Joins Square Enix's Outriders Team
Runescape and Outriders aren't necessarily two games that players think of at the RS gold same time, so it might come as a surprise to see the Runescape player address r/Outriders. Still, this has resulted in healthy posts and interactions between fans of each and/or both games. It all comes down to a former Jagex employee: David Osborne, also known in the Runescape community as Mod Osborne.
Osborn recently revealed on LinkedIn that he is leaving Jagex after 15 years of content editing, narrative design and protagonist design. It was a choice he made to "test [his] experience in other areas of the industry," as he describes it. Osborne is leaving Jagex to go directly into Square Enix's publishing division as a senior designer. He will oversee "some great games," starting with Outriders.
The discovery led Redditor FatNWackyRS to send r/Outriders a simple message about Mod Osborne, describing him as Jagex's "warm, friendly 'daddy' face." FatNWackyRS describes what Osborne has done for the community over the years, Includes clips such as appearing as Mod Elfborne to promote Prifddinas (the elf city in Runescape), joining livestreams, and helping to realize the company's vision.
While some gamers or the community would be upset by the loss of a recognizable company image, FatNWackyRS invited other Runescape players to share their experiences. Notably, one reviewer stated that as someone who played both Runescape and Outriders, they felt like they were both winning and losing. Others were excited by the news, even those who had never interacted with Osborn before, thanks to the enthusiastic support of members of the Runescape community.
Indeed, it remains to be seen what exactly will happen on the edge of his Outriders fence, but fans know there's a lot going on in the game. In addition to Outriders' Worldslayer expansion set to be announced sometime this spring and set to release this year, People Can Fly has plenty of other projects in the works -- including another game in partnership with Square Enix. It remains to be seen, though, whether Osborn will be involved.
FatNWackyRS ended his post with a simple and heartwarming message for Osborn, if he happened to see it: Thank you for everything he's done for Runescape, and best wishes for his time at Square Enix. "We love you, will miss you, and wish you the best of luck in your exciting future endeavors with Square Enix," the cheap OSRS gold Redditor wrote on behalf of the RS community.
