RuneScape’s "Road to the Creator" Yak Track adds controversial experience rewards

Today's update introduces a new Yak Track in RuneScape. Titled "The Way of RS gold the Creator", it is based on the theme of the oldest inhabitant of the universe: the ancient gods. Road to the Creator is the eighth Yak Track added to RuneScape, but this one is not so good. Developer Jagex has added certain rewards that the community is not satisfied with.

Yak Tracks is actually RuneScape's interpretation of the battle pass. They are one of the many microtransactions in RuneScape that challenge players to complete certain tasks to pass 50 available levels. These levels are mainly composed of unique cosmetics and other miscellaneous rewards. However, this Yak Track is the first to provide a lot of experience rewards for those who complete it.

Disturbing format

For every five levels completed in the road to the creator, all skills in RuneScape will be rewarded with an additional 1% experience value increase. This promotion will remain in effect until the end of the Yak Track on October 3rd. By the penultimate level 49, players will benefit from an additional 9% XP.

This alone is not ideal, but the next design decision makes the community say that winning is worthwhile. After completing the last layer, a 16% XP boost will be applied on top of the existing 9% boost. This means that most XP upgrades can only be obtained by completing the Yak Track.

Like all Yak Tracks in RuneScape, players can complete the road to creator through 50 levels. However, this is time consuming and the paid bonds can be used to skip levels. You can use 10 bonds to directly upgrade from level 1 to level 50. It is currently priced at $69.99 in the official RuneScape store.

The possible motivation for Jagex to place such a powerful reward on the last tier is to prompt players to buy bonds. If so, then this is not a good idea for the cheap RuneScape gold completeness of the 20-year-old MMORPG game. Distributing XP rewards so freely devalues ??the achievements of past players. In addition, locking the powerful XP boost behind the paywall is an inherently anti-consumer practice, and many players are not excited about this decision.
