Our AuthorsThe "Runescape" community is in an uproar over the cheating ban
The Old-School Runescape community got caught up in a dramatic incident regarding the RS gold permanent ban on content creator Rendi, who accused Jagex of lying about the reason for his ban.
On July 2, Rendi’s account was banned for a video showing how to enter the restricted area without meeting the requirements. Although these videos are usually not a problem—Rendi has previously won a Jagex award for his work on discovering and reporting errors—the creator believes that capturing these small errors is why he was banned.
No spoilers, but yes, my HCIM "defensaga" was banned on July 2 one day after the video was released. The news post said it was banned because I crashed the game in a year to deceive the GP with intent to sell it = chain ban, but all other accounts still exist
After the community strongly opposed Jagex’s poor judgment, the company issued a statement on July 9 stating that the banned accounts were actually “used for malicious activities”, including “the game world collapsed for the purpose of copying objects and wealth ". Sell in real-world currency".
In the update of the statement, Jagex clarified that the account ban has nothing to do with the error shown in the video. They also confirmed that the creator had "at least 14" accounts banned in 2021, while another player related to the show received "at least 48" bans at the same time.
Although Rendi argues that he is always open to reporting errors, Jagex's update claims that the company received screenshots showing that certain errors were abused a full month before the official report.
Rendi dismissed these claims as "a huge lie" on Twitter, but Runescape developer Mod Ash stated that "although you are welcome to assume that the player is telling the whole truth, I am afraid we disagree."
Although players asked Jagex to provide evidence of Rendi's guilt, Mod Ash pointed out that they had no plans to "share the technical details of attacking our game world."
In response to Rendi directly, former Jagex employee Mat K suggested that they submit a subject access request under the data protection law to see all the details of his ban.
The Old School Runescape subreddit caused an uproar, and the individual quickly stood in line on the matter. The original Reddit post, titled "Free RENDI-This is ridiculous", had more than 24,000 likes.
Since then, a number of topics have emerged — all of which have hundreds, usually thousands of votes — to pick sides on the question of who is at fault. Of course, there are some people who just simply enjoy the play.
Although the dispute is unlikely to be resolved without further updates from cheap RuneScape gold Jagex, it is interesting to see the subreddit of nearly 600,000 players completely immersed in the drama.
