Unveiling the Assassin's Well-Rounded Path in Path of Exile

Feb-07-2024 PST Category: path of exile

We delved into the realm of Flicker Strike for the first time during the previous league, and the sheer thrill of dealing massive damage instantly captivated me. Fast forward to the current league, with the introduction of the powerful Flicker Strike of Power gem, We decided to take a shot at it with the Assassin subclass. Our goal was to steer away from the typical glass cannon nature of Flicker Strike and transform it into a more well-rounded build.

Embarking on this journey early in the league, I found great enjoyment in the build. Its damage output proved sufficient for nearly all non-Uber content, and the character exhibited remarkable survivability while remaining budget-friendly in the later stages of the league. With an investment of around 10 to 15 divine orbs, you could assemble a character capable of tackling all non-Uber challenges.

The primary objective of this build was to be an efficient Shaper Guardian speed farmer, a goal it excelled at. Although not the fastest in terms of speed, the delicate balance between speed and damage made it an excellent choice considering its cost-effectiveness.

Now, let's delve into the mechanics of this build. One intriguing aspect is the interaction with the new sword introduced in the previous league, Rind's Dance. This sword imparts inversion, flipping elemental resistances when attacking an enemy. For instance, when striking Phoenix, which has a base cold resistance of 50%, the inversion causes it to become 50% cold weakness. This is why the build doesn't focus on reducing the mob's resistance but instead utilizes items like Rockat and Eye of Malice to manipulate cold resistance.

Eye of Malice, the chosen helmet, not only increases cold resistance but also provides a substantial energy shield boost. This synergy allows for a divine blessing setup with a 50% aura on the chest piece, which is the Atziri's Splendour. Additionally, the build leverages unique items like Badge of the Brotherhood to synchronize frenzy and power charges, enhancing its overall efficiency.

The Relic Hes and Patience boots ensure a consistent supply of maximum frenzy, power, and endurance charges, even though these charges aren't visually represented as buffs. Another unique inclusion is the Oskarm belt, rarely seen in other builds. This unconventional choice grants a significant increase in elemental damage with attacks for each power charge, enhancing both damage output and energy shield.

The remaining gear consists of rares, emphasizing the importance of avoiding life rolls to maximize the benefits from the Atziri's Splendour chest. Notably, the amulet slot is dedicated to Badge of the Brotherhood, aligning frenzy charges with power charges.

In terms of gameplay, the build relies on the inversion mechanic and the generation of power charges to bypass the cooldown of Flicker Strike. The Flicker Strike of Power gem, combined with Power Charge on Critical Support, ensures a constant influx of power charges on critical hits, allowing for sustained Flicker Strike usage.

While there may be occasional cooldown triggers, particularly in non-full-life scenarios with pinnacle bosses, the issue is minimal and rarely warrants the use of a diamond flask. Overall, the build achieves its initial goal of providing an affordable Flicker Strike experience, allowing players to revel in the joy of the skill with significantly reduced costs. Future iterations may explore higher-budget Trickster versions, but for now, I'm satisfied with the success of this endeavor.
